Time to move the clock forward here on the blog. Every winter seems a bit shorter than the previous one. Life on the farm is beginning to stir. Our friend Dave serviced the new mower last week and both Robert and I have done a small bit of mowing. Growing in the hoop house continues, we sold more veggies last week than either of us can ever remember. Tomato seeds have been germinated and the plants will soon be ready to be transplanted. Work in and around the blueberries has begun as well. As we always say “we shall see”. Check back here for periodic updates. As in the past years we will announce when the berries are ready to u-pick and post our plans for being open for friends and neighbors to join us here on the farm.

When we open the berry patch for pickers you can easily be surprised by who shows up. This young fellow clearly knew what to do. We will be open again on Thursday morning from 10 to noon and on Saturday from 9am to noon. Stop by and and pick a few for yourself. Bring a friend, young or old everyone seems to enjoy the experience.

This is a challenging time of the year for your favorite blueberry growers. It is always difficult to match the ripening berries, appropriate weather conditions for picking, the best times for our customers and our availability.

For the coming week we plan to open on Tuesday 6/18 and Thursday 6/20 from 10am to noon on both days. We will also plan on being open on Saturday 6/22 from 9am to noon. We still have berries ripening and look forward to seeing you on the farm.

The way it works: We try to balance the ripe berries (so there are enough for everyone who shows up), the weather (not raining or excessively hot and humid) with the opportunity to come to the farm and pick. This is not a perfect system.

We have containers. We sell by the pint and quart (not weight). The prices are the same as last year and for the many years before that. You pick and then pay the farmer $4.00 a pint and $8.00 a quart. The containers are full when the berries are level with the top of the container. Overfilled containers cost more.

Things to keep in mind. No toilets (so plan ahead). Bring a water bottle picking can be thirsty work. We don’t take credit cards. Cash or a check payable to Blueberry Gardens will do the trick. No smoking anywhere on the farm. Leave your pets at home. Yes children are welcome.

The 2019 season seems to be fast approaching. The weather has been very favorable to our early season blueberry bushes and they are covered with flowers and we are starting to see the fruit develop from behind the flowers. Ever grateful for the work of all the pollinators. When the fruit is ready for you to visit the farm and fill our pint and quart containers we will announce it here as well as send an email out to those who are on our list.

Our early season berries have come and gone. Thank you to those of you who helped with the harvest. At the moment we have lots of wonderful tomatoes and the summer squash has been just great. June was a great month for the bees and we now have honey available.
